15 January, Warsaw, University of Social Sciences and Humanities (SWPS) my talk about prewar pra-comics and proto-comics

The interdisciplinary symposium „POP-PL Popular Culture in Poland till 1939” was held on 14-19 January, 2016 at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Warsaw. It was my pleasure to present my paper Prewar Pra-Comics and Proto-Comics: New Branch of Art is Born.

I told about the interwar proto-comics being continuation of 19th century pra-comics (works, among others,  by Kostrzewski or Lentz published in  “Tygodnik Ilustrowany”) and I compared their themes to those in works published at the time in colonial countries (Franco-Belgian comics about Kongo) and in post-colonial countries (German comics about the Great Depression).
